Beyond the studio, Laurie served as an adjunct lecturer at LaGuardia Community College and Baruch College, where she created the unique elective course, DSL: Dance as a Second Language. Laurie's contagious passion for dance invites students of all levels to join her on the dance floor.
Here’s what her students are saying:
Best thing we could have done leading up to the wedding. Wonderful teaching both in group and private, great time together as a couple to destress and connect in a comfortable environment. Yassi
I’ve been taking dance lessons with Laurie Shayler at Dance Connection for a long time and there’s nobody better to learn partner dancing from. She has a remarkable ability to break down any dance sequence and then communicate to you, the student, how to perform each movement. I feel that she has brought me into a new relationship with my body through her dance instruction. Laurie has a friendly and fun teaching style and she is always ready to review anything you feel you need help with. She is sometimes assisted by her husband Ricardo and brother-in-law Jose Luis. They are both excellent instructors and great fun when they lead a class.
